For those who are starting to learn and/or to use Microsoft Power BI as reporting and data analysis tool, or even for those who need to review some essential concepts, the book “Learning Microsoft Power BI” of Jeremey Arnold, published by the well-known publisher O’Reilly, could be a helpful choice.
Beginning the book with the context in which Microsoft Power BI was developed by Microsoft, with its goals and importance, the author guides us through travel from the most basic to the most advanced topics of this tool. He offers the reader/learner a comprehensive view of the tool, keeping it simple with all the technical rigor needed at same time, and always with images related to the menus and windows in question.
In terms
of structure, “Leaning Microsoft Power BI” is divided into 10 chapters, whose
details could be seen in the table of contents (https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/learning-microsoft-power/9781098112837/):
1- Intro to Power BI;
2 – The Report and Data Views;
3 – Importing and Modeling Our Data;
4 – Let’s Make Some Pictures (Visualizing Data 100);
5 – Aggregations, Measures, and DAX;
6- Putting The Puzzle Pieces Together: From Raw Data to Report;
7 – Advanced Reporting Topics in Power BI;
8 – Introduction to the Power BI Service;
9 – Licensing and Deployment Tips;
10 – Third-Party Tools.
“Learning
Microsoft Power BI” is, in my opinion, a good starting point, complementing
other materials that we could use to start our learning journey of how to use this
powerful business intelligence tool.
